This friendly society welcomes new members and gives encouragement to all who are interested in orchid growing, whether they have large collections or one orchid growing on a windowsill.
The society, which was founded in 1987, is a member of the British Orchid Council.
Members meet at Bowburn Community Centre in Durham, normally on the last Tuesday of the month. Very occasionally the day or date is changed to accommodate a speaker or event. The meetings are informal and friendly, with a variety of topics being discussed by an experienced member, growers and guest speakers.
A table show is held at each meeting and members are encouraged to exhibit their flowering plants and to bring problem plants for advice in their care.
Newsletters are emailed or posted to all members in advance of the meeting informing them of developments and plans, giving them topical cultural advice and details of forthcoming orchid shows at which the Society displays plants grown by members. Frequently our members’ plants win awards. Visits are made to orchid nurseries, botanical gardens and shows.
The annual membership subscription is £12.00 single and £16.00 family
